2016 go away

This year has been hard on me and my family, my friends, my dogs...very hard. I lost my Poodle to cancer. I hate cancer and if I could shoot it I would. I generally don't want to shoot things, it comes from a lesson from my dad that included a gun and a dead bird. But I would shoot cancer. I lost my best friend, Brooke. I have not been able to write about this because it sucks. She could call me or I could call her and bleak became sunshine. I am not sure that talking to her now has the same affect on my. But I still talk to her. My son had brain surgery, he is fine now, but damn 2016. My a-fib came back. I have knit one sock twice and it still is not the sock I wanted to knit, it is huge. And this is just since September. So I am making the last few days of 2016 as peaceful as possible. Telling myself to be happy, and for the most part I am. it will be easier when it is 2017.

Thinking about Jerry

Jerry is my dear departed husband. And what made me think of him was a blanket being made with geek symbols on it. The first square is a Tesla Coil. Jerry made two in his lifetime. One for school and one for me. I won't try to explain it here...google Tesla and don't look at the cars or Space X. I may be one of a few women who think that getting a Tesla coil is romantic, but I did. He also built me a doll house. A haunted doll house. But that is another story.

Bit off more than I can chew

You would think with as many trips around the sun as I had made that I would know that I just can not kit three pair of socks in one month. So i am revamping the schedule. One pair of socks for my darling son, who will need them to keep his feet warm, before Christmas. So those are first. The second pair is going to be a KAL that I slipped and fell into. They are due in December. Third will be to finish socks for my son in law, they can hold till Christmas. Then a few odds and ends and I will be done for Christmas. I have several pair to be mailed and I almost always do that by Thanksgiving. Along with the Christmas cards that need mailing. This schedule makes me much happier, and the cut on my knitting finger time to heal. I tried with a band-aid, and without, and find that I can not knit with either without opening my cut. So today after work I will read and hope it heals overnight. There is always superglue....

Hello October, Hello Monday

October 1st. I sat down and decided what I needed to knit this month to keep up with my Christmas knitting. So I have two pair of big old feet socks to do. And a shawlette on the needles for one of my sons' in laws. Than got on Ravelry to make sure I had these in my projects, which I did. And tripped into a KAL with PaperDaisy1. She of the famous Tootsie Roll socks. So now I have decided to do a pair of socks every 10 days and push the shawlette off till November. I will keep you updated.

Friday, Friday, Friday

It's been a really good week. I finished a pair of socks, and a hat. I got to visit with my one remaining Aunt and several cousins. I got work caught up and am looking forward to the weekend. The weather is starting to change and for me that is a good thing. The heat and humidity is just too much. So it is about 10 degrees cooler and not as sticky as it has been. And for some strange reason I want to knit bit old thick socks. It could be that I just made a size 10 sock and have 2 pair size 10 and and 11 to so and I want to knit little socks....my size socks in bright colors. These men only wear black, gray or blue. So it came to mind that I can make their dark, dreary colored sock in big old worsted weight and get them done in a few days or can make them on tiny needles and drag them around from now to Christmas, like Marley drug his chains. I have three Big Beanie Bags from Jimmy Beans wool that have cute project in them. These bags are the bomb. They have enough sample yarn for each project, a notion and a sample of Soak in a really cute Project Bag. I really want to do these before Christmas, for gifts. There is a cowl, a shawlette and a pair of fingerless mitts. And I am due to get another soon. They are a great way to sample yarn. I get a mystery bag so my colors can be anything, but when you sign up you can ask for hot or cool colors. There is a group on Ravelry called Jimmy Beans Wool. Come on over and see what is in the bags. And no I don't work for them. Have a spectacular weekend!

Chirp

Sleeping soundly at a little after two in the morning...chirp. Chirp. I get up go into my living room and hear it again. Chirp. So I unplug or plug in all of the electronics that could be making the noise. I go back to bed. Fall asleep and chirp. Dharma, my little dog, is scared to death and shaking. I am just sleepy, and Chirp....confused. What makes that sound? Again about 5 am This time I go into the laundry room and turn off the fluorescent light. And go back to bed. It is now 7 ish and I text my son who lives upstairs to come down. And make him listen for the chirp. Chirp. He reaches up and get the smoke alarm and removes the battery, remember on The Mordern Family when Phil is going to take a baseball bat to his chirp? Yes, I remember. Do I need a base ball bat? No, just a new 9 volt battery, and a nap. And my question is, why can't they flash and not chirp?

New obsession

I got a big refrigerator for my birthday. I live in th downstairs apartment in my sons house, and had a small refrigerator..Which was just enough to keep lunch stuff. Now I have a two door refrigerator with a freezer. So my newest hoppy seems to be grocery shopping. I will tell you that and then tell you this. I hate grocery shopping. I am 70. I have been grocery shopping since I was 16. But like many other things I don't have to do this. My daughter in law does it for me. So I am hoping to get distracted by a new shiny thing pretty quick. and the fact is its pretty full. I am hoping my next shiny has to do with cooking some of this food. Or my daughter in law can come down here and shop. And I can make here socks!

I hate cancer

I had to put my poodle to sleep on Monday. She had cancer. I hate cancer. She came into our lives when she needed a home. She loved Jerry with a passion and he loved her the same. If the universe is in anyway fair, they are together today. Both out of pain and not having to live with that beast inside of them ever again.

I did it. I joined the Ravellenic going on during the olympics...we used to call it something else but the olympic committee got bent out of shape, cause knitter are not athletes. But I digress. So I said I would make a pair of socks in the time the olympics ran in Rio. From the 5th of August to the 21 of August. I am normally pretty good on a deadline. This time it was close. I got done after a couple of days flat on my back with "my back is killing me". But I did it. I knit my fingers to the bone.

So this is happening

In a few more days I complete my 70th trip around the sun. I would like to say I have sage advice for people who are in the mist of their trips, but I really don't. Have fun! Dance naked! Eat Cake. okay a little sage advice.

Socks

I love knitting socks. I know I say it all the time, but socks just make me happy. I found Fleegles' Blog and her toe up socks, then the Fleegle Heel, then how to do the Fleegle Heel top down. This sock just fits. And I can remember how to do it without carrying around pages of how to. And now I have found a new pattern that I love. It is called the Tootsie Roll sock by Lisa K. Ross. It is fun and easy!

begin again

Remember the songs we sang as children that were sand in rounds. I seem to blog like that. Time to time I have to begin again. I am learning to spin. I got a Babe Pinkie, cause it is small, I am short and a small wheel appealed to me. It was originally made for children, and I also thought if a child can use it, there is a chance I can figure it out. I know there is a large flaw in my thinking, my children are way smarter than I am, and their children are smarter still. But going with flawed logic is something I am well know to do. I am starting small. learning the muscle memory that my foot and leg needs to learn, by sitting at the wheel and just using the pedal. I like the meditative movement, I can see me doing this. She needs a name, my little girl. Any ideas?

Me and my purse sock

So Sitting in the Doctors office today, which is a part time job for seniors, I watched people and how they waited the almost an hour to be called back. There was an older couple, really cute, who were whispering to each other like they had just met. There was a man leaning on his cane. Two or three people were watching a tv show about people flipping houses. A lady was reading one of the many magazines from the waiting room. Some were filling out the paperwork that gets you into see the doctor. And me, I was knitting a sock. A really pretty sock.

Getting Older is not for Sissies

I have done it again. I went threw all of my WIP's and ripped a ton of them off the needles. I just have lost my mojo. I am spending a lot of time looking for projects I think will keep my interest, while not being so hard I get frustrated. Any suggestions?
